Stakeholder Analysis
API provides briefings to governments and international organizations on the results of its studies regarding social and political movements of Afghanistan and key stakeholders to peace and dialogue about the future of Afghanistan.
Research
API conducts action-oriented research to help guide policy and peacebuilding practice for Afghanistan.In particular, it leverages its extensive connections throughout Afghanistan's diverse social communities in order to gain insights into actions, perspectives, and organizations relevant to building peace in Afghanistan.
Creation of Dialogue
API partners with the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies and other institutions to organize Track II dialogues with participation of well-established and emerging social and political movements of Afghanistan.It also offers consultation on dialogue creation.
Education
API supports schools for Afghan children who are internally or externally displaced due to conflicts, poverty, or natural disasters. API’s current school provides education to over one hundred incredibly talented girls and boys inside Afghanistan. Additionally, API provides mentorship to young women inside Afghanistan who seek opportunities for higher education in the region or beyond.
Emergency Relief
Although API focuses primarily on strategic peacebuilding, its extensive connection across local populations has made it an essential mediary for the timely distribution of food, clothing, first aid packages and any other necessary resources during times of emergency.
Leadership
API is a collaboration between a wide network of International and Afghan peacebuilding experts. It was initiated and is currently directed by peacebuilding and diplomatic expert Aref Dostyar.

Aref Dostyar began his work in peacebuilding, research, and diplomacy over 15 years ago.In addition to his work at API, Dostyar is an Advisor and Program Leader for the Afghanistan Program for Peace and Development (AfPAD) at the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. In this role, he collaborates with Notre Dame faculty and staff from various programs and institutes to create and support initiatives to amplify Afghan voices for an inclusive and peaceful Afghanistan.Previously, Dostyar worked as Afghanistan’s Consul General in Los Angeles from 2020 until the fall of Kabul to the Taliban. Prior to that, he served at Afghanistan's Office of the National Security Council in the positions of Director General for International Relations and Director of Peace and Reconciliation Affairs. In these leadership positions, he provided regular policy insight to the Leadership of Afghanistan, served as liaison to global foreign policy directors, and authored several strategic documents including the National Strategy to Counter Violent Extremism, which led to the teaching of peaceful cohabitation in mosques and schools across the country.Dostyar’s writings and interviews can be found in the New York Times, the BBC, the Foreign Policy Magazine, and several other publications.More information about Dostyar’s recent work including policy briefs, public policy forums, and Track II dialogue initiatives can be accessed via AfPAD’s resources webpage.
